Abstract:

Intelligent signal processing and optimised signal detection techniques play an increasingly important role in modern optical communication and sensing systems. With the growing demand for high-capacity data transmission, accurate sensing, and efficient information processing, advanced signal processing techniques have become essential for improving system performance, reliability, and adaptability. In this talk, I will present our recent research on impairment compensation and constellation shaping for optical communication systems, focusing on the application of intelligent algorithms to mitigate transmission impairments and enhance signal quality and transmission performance. I will also discuss advanced signal detection techniques for optical sensing systems, highlighting their potential for improving sensing accuracy, sensitivity, and robustness. Furthermore, I will explore the applications of intelligent signal processing in opticalintegrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems, where communication and sensing functionalities can be jointly supported and optimised. Finally, I will share insights into the emerging field of semantic communication over optical channels and discuss potential research directions for next-generation intelligent optical communication and sensing systems.
