若明日的建筑如过往一般，再度回归古典传统并以此为创新的基石，我们大可不必惊诧。毕竟，尽管进步主义的论调不绝于耳，现代主义的历史叙事却往往选择性地将其遗忘。

20世纪的先驱建筑师们重新审视古典建筑的历史遗构，绝非仅仅出于发掘其历史价值的考量，更在于他们将其视为超越时代的建筑与文化价值的载体，并从中汲取切实的建筑设计启示。

传统观点往往将古典建筑视为一种“凝固”的遗产，认为其本质在于严苛的规则、固定的比例与法式，代表着一种不容更改的完美审美。然而事实恰恰相反，正是对古典传统的深刻认知与沉浸，滋养了包括勒·柯布西耶（Le Corbusier）、杨廷宝（T. P. Yang）、路易斯·康（Louis Kahn）、阿尔多·罗西（Aldo Rossi）、罗伯特·文丘里（Robert Venturi）和丹尼斯·斯科特·布朗（Denise Scott Brown）在内的一系列建筑师，使他们成长为极具革新精神的先驱人物；他们以其写作与建成作品，对当时的建筑界现状发起了深刻的挑战。而深扎根基的思考，最终孕育出破局而立的突破。

起决定作用的不仅是历史，历史在废墟中的物质遗存同样功不可没。上述建筑师无一不对这些残垣断壁进行过深入的实地考察、测绘与手绘。与物质遗存同等重要的，是那些关于幸存之物的文字记述，尤其是这些记述所构建的理论词汇——那些至今仍被我们使用和争论的术语。这一简要的语汇表既令人熟悉又魅力无穷：对称（symmetria）、和谐（harmonia）、模仿（mimesis）与协调（eurythmia），连同将神庙或建筑、柱式的柱子与人体进行类比的隐喻，即维特鲁威人，当然还有探讨最为广泛的古典三要素：坚固（Firmitas）、实用（Utilitas）、美观（Venustas）。

We shouldn’t be surprised if tomorrow’s architecture, like that of today and the recent past, turns again to the Classical Tradition to reground design innovation, despite the stridency of progressivist claims and the forgetfulness of modernist histories. Pioneering architects of the 20th century examined historical buildings of Classical Architecture partly for their historical value, but more largely as carriers of transhistorical architectural and cultural values, and as a source of relevant design lessons.

Against common perception of Classical Architecture as a “frozen” tradition whose essence is based on strict rules, fixed proportions, and codifications, expressing an aesthetic perfection that should remain “untouched”, knowledge of and engagement with the Classical Architectural tradition helped architects such as Le Corbusier, T. P. Yang, Louis Kahn, Aldo Rossi, Robert Venturi, and Denise Scott Brown to develop into radically innovative architects whose work, written and built, challenged the architectural status quo of their time. Grounded thinking led to groundbreaking designs.

Not only is history decisive, its material survival in ruins has also been important. All these architects studied, surveyed, and sketched them. No less important were written descriptions of what had survived, especially the vocabulary those accounts elaborated, terms we use and debate still today. The short list is no less fascinating than familiar: symmetria (symmetry), harmonia (harmony), mimesis, and eurythmia (eurythmy), together with analogies and metaphors of the temple/building and the columns of the Orders with the human body, the “Vitruvian” man, and perhaps the most widely discussed, the triptych of Firmitas - Utilitas - Venustas.

 本次会议将探讨 / THE CONFERENCE WILL EXPLORE 

1）20世纪和21世纪先驱建筑师的作品与设计思考：探讨他们如何围绕结构与装饰、比例、地形、色彩／光影、纪念性、含义／隐喻等设计主题审视古典建筑，并在与古典传统的对话中提出前瞻性的设计哲学，打造出富有革新意义的建筑作品。

2）古典传统在当代全球化语境中的再思：探讨植根于古希腊与古罗马的古典建筑传统，如何在更广阔的地理维度与世界多元文化中，持续影响当代建筑理论与设计实践？进而我们追问，在新的技术再现手段与形式生成方法大量涌现的背景下，当代建筑师通过研习古典建筑，能获得怎样的知识？重新审视并反思源自古代的构想、术语和概念，将如何挑战我们塑造建成环境的方式？更具体而言，它如何能够深化我们对建筑与自然世界之关系的感知？

1) The work and design thinking of pioneering 20th and 21st centuries architects who examined buildings of Classical Architecture through design themes such as structure and ornament, proportions, topography, color/light/shadow, monumentality, meaning/metaphor, and who were in dialogue with this tradition as they advanced novel design philosophies and innovative buildings.

2) How can the Classical Architectural tradition, rooted as it is in ancient Greece and Rome, impact contemporary architectural theory and design in wider geographies and other cultures of the world? Further, what kind of knowledge can a contemporary architect receive from engaging with Classical Architecture, amidst a surge of new technical means of representation and form finding? How can revisiting and rethinking ideas, terminology, and concepts from antiquity challenge the way we design our built environment; more particularly, how might it deepen the ways we perceive architecture’s relation to the natural world?
